Vca has been founded in 2005 by Robert van den Bos. During the past years the organisation has welcomed many volunteers in Ghana from all over the world. Vca has two offices, one in Amsterdam and one in Tamale. The office in Tamale is used as an office and as the Childaid house for volunteers. Volunteers are placed in projects such as schools, construction of schools, orphanages and hospitals.
Vca focuses upon the improvement of education and rights of woman and children. The activites for the construction primarely focus upon improving the building and the facilities of existing schools in order to increase child education and decrease child poverty. Vca has during 2 years build 4 schools in cooperation with the NCDO, Wilde Ganzen en the Africa Schools Fund. These schools combined accomodate one thousand children. The organisation emphasizes the importance of including the local community during the process of development. It is paramount the need for development also arises from within the community. During the process of the construction of schools volunteers are, together with members of the community and the construction workers, part of team.
Vca aims with the construction of schools also to reserve extra space for feeding programmes. In addition the organisation focuses upon cooperation with other local organisations. This cooperation may exist out of placement of volunteers or cooperation with construction projects. in 2009 Vca will focus on the following project: the Tamale center of education and rights for woman and children. The project will be realised in cooperation with other local organisations.
