Before departure
Every last friday evening before departure there is a dinner at the Vca office in Amsterdam. You can then meet other volunteers that will be in the same group. This meeting is not compulsory. We will not expect you to travel to Holland just for this meeting but of course you are welcome to do so. We inform all volunteers one week before departure if they are departing on the same flight so that, should they wish to do so, they can travel together.

Arrival at the airport / 1 night stay Accra

Every four weeks a group trip will be organised. The program always starts the first thursday of every month, please check starting dates for the exact dates. Therefore you will arrive with a group of volunteers in Accra. We will pick you up at the airport. You will spend one night in Accra.

Introduction week.

The next day you will travel to Kumasi. Then, the following day you will travel to Tamale . here in tamale at the Childaid house you will start your introduction. During this week you still stay at the Childaid house. (Please go to Childaid house for more information - section who are we.) After the introduction week we will bring you to the host family.

In this week you will have a general orientation, your will meet all the projects where you can work, you will visit places you should go for services and you will meet your hostfamily. After this week you will start your voluntarywork. The reason why you do not start this work right away is that we think it is best for you to first feel at home, relax, adjust to the different climat and learn a few things about Ghana.

After this week of course your hostfamily will provide you with lodging, breakfast and diner. (This is included in the price). During introduction week Voluntary Childaid will provide you with breakfast and lunch and dinner if organised at the Childaid house. If the group is eating outside the volunteer is asked to pay for the cost of the dinner or lunch him/herself. Usually in the introduction week dinner is organised three times at the house and three other times at an outside (reasonable priced) restaurant.

After the introduction week

Vca will stay in contact with you. Every two weeks a social dinner will be held at the house for all volunteers. In addition you will be invited to any other social event or trip organised by Vca.
