VCA was founded in 2005. During the past six years the organization has welcomed many volunteers in Ghana and Guatemala from all over the world. VCA has two offices, one in Amsterdam and one in Tamale. In Ghana, the organization has helped to build 6 schools and placed volunteers in projects such as teaching in schools, construction of schools, orphanages and hospitals. In Guatemala VCA works with a partner organization, Caras Alegras.
Voluntary work
VCA combines development aid with voluntary work. The organization realises that volunteers also come to Ghana and Guatemala for the experience of living abroad. Therefore it also emphasizes the social aspect of the experience. Through the placement in Ghanain and Guatemalan host families the volunteers get the opportunity to learn about the culture of these countries.
Development work
VCA focuses on the improvement of education and rights of woman and children. The activites for the construction focus primarily upon improving the building and the facilities of existing schools in order to increase child education and decrease child poverty. VCA has built 4 schools in 2 years in cooperation with the NCDO, Wilde Ganzen and the Africa Schools Fund. Together these schools accommodate one thousand children. The organisation emphasizes the importance of including the local community during the process of development. It is important that the need for development also comes from the community. During the process of the construction of schools volunteers work together with members of the community and the construction workers as part of a team.
In addition VC focuses on cooperation with other local organizations. This cooperation may consist of the placement of volunteers or cooperation with construction projects.
